Fake Investment Platforms: How to Verify Before You Invest

Published May 23, 2026

Fake investment platforms have become dangerously convincing. Scammers invest in professional UI, fake live charts, fabricated profit dashboards and even fake customer support. Here's how to verify any platform before investing.

Step 1 โ€” Check regulatory registration: Any legitimate investment platform must be registered with a financial regulator. In the US: SEC (sec.gov) or CFTC. In the UK: FCA (register.fca.org.uk). In Australia: ASIC (asic.gov.au).

Step 2 โ€” Search the platform name + "scam" or "review": Real scam reports surface quickly. Check Reddit, Trustpilot and ScamAdviser.

Step 3 โ€” Verify the domain age: Use who.is to check when the domain was registered. Platforms registered in the last 6โ€“12 months claiming years of operation are red flags.

Step 4 โ€” Test a small withdrawal first: Before depositing significant funds, request a small withdrawal. Legitimate platforms process withdrawals without requiring additional fees.
