Task scams — also known as "like and earn" or "app review" jobs — are surging on WhatsApp and Telegram. Victims are offered simple online tasks (rating products, reviewing apps) for small daily payments. Once trust is established, victims are asked to make "deposits" to unlock higher-paying tasks.
How it escalates: The deposits grow steadily. Each time you try to withdraw, you're told you need to complete one more task or deposit more. Eventually the account is frozen and the scammer vanishes with everything.
Warning signs:
- Unsolicited job offers via WhatsApp, Telegram or SMS
- Payment required to "upgrade" your account level
- Unusual payment methods — crypto, gift cards, wire transfer
- No verifiable company, address or registration
- Pressure to recruit friends or family
