Task Scam & Employment Fraud

Task scams — also called "like and earn" or app review jobs — have surged globally, particularly targeting young adults and job-seekers. They are designed to feel like legitimate part-time work.

The Setup

You receive an unsolicited message (WhatsApp, Telegram, LinkedIn) offering simple online tasks for payment. Examples: rating products, liking videos, reviewing apps, completing surveys.

The Trust Phase

Initial small tasks pay out real money. This is deliberate — it builds trust and convinces you the operation is legitimate. You may also be added to a group chat with apparent "colleagues" who are all part of the scam operation.

The Escalation

After earning some money, you're offered "premium" or "VIP" tasks with higher pay. But these require a deposit to your account first. You're told it's a temporary holding balance or an account upgrade fee.

The Freeze

Your account is "frozen" — either because you didn't complete enough tasks, or you need to pay another fee to unlock your earnings. No matter what you pay, the freeze continues until you stop paying.

Warning Signs

• Job offered via WhatsApp or Telegram (not official job boards)
• No verifiable company name, address or registration
• Payment required to "upgrade" or "unlock" your account
• Group chat with enthusiastic "colleagues" showing big earnings
